
Cougs Hold Off No. 3 Campbell, Advance to Semis

The Cougars improve to 37-21 overall after picking up their second win of the day following a 4-2 win to knock out No. 6 Elon.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST CAMPBELL:
- Charleston's bats game out swinging, jumping out to an 8-0 lead through four and a half innings.
 - Leading 1-0 in the second, freshman Alex LaCoste slugged a two-run shot 398 feet.
 - The Cougars doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI double from senior Dariyan Pendergrass and two-run double off the bat of freshman Landon Penfield.
 - LaCoste drove in his third run of the day with a double in the fifth before scoring on a senior Ben Venables knock into right.
 - Campbell gained momentum in the seventh, scoring five runs to make it an 8-6 contest.
 - CofC bounced back as senior Tyler Sorrentino singled home a pair and Venables tripled in two more to give the Cougars a dozen.
 - The Camels looked to comeback, tacking two homers in the eighth and a pair in the ninth before senior Davis Aiken secured the victory with a strikeout.
 - Venables tallied a game-high four hits in the win while also driving in three runs.
 - Pendergrass stole his 43rd base of the season.
 - Charleston's seven, eight and nine hitters combined to go 8-for-15 with five runs, eight RBI and four extra-base hits.
 
OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves to 16-18 overall versus Campbell, 9-11 at home and earned its first win over the Camels in the CAA Tournament.
 - Redshirt junior Alex Lyon earned his tenth win of the season, tying him for the sixth-most victories in a single season in program history
 - Lyon also appeared in his 78th career game out of the bullpen.
 - Aiken earned the save in both victories giving him 14 on the season, which takes sole possession of fourth in a single year.
 - Aiken's 25 career stops are one shy of Nathan Ocker's mark of 26 for second all-time.
 - Charleston improves to 95-6 under head coach Chad Holbrook when scoring 10-plus runs in a game.
 - Sorrentino extended his hitting streak to 18 consecutive games, which is tied with Lee Curtis (2003) for the seventh-longest in school history.
