
Offensive Explosion Produces Rout of The Citadel

The Cougars earned their 28th victory of the season and take the season series over the Bulldogs, 2-1.
CofC tallied five singles and three doubles in the second, putting up the second-most runs in a frame this season. On the mound, six Cougar hurlers combined to strike out eight and hold The Citadel to just one run on six hits while not allowing a free pass.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST THE CITADEL:
- Charleston surrendered a solo shot on the first pitch of the ballgame before countering with a pair of runs in the home half of the opening frame.
 - The Cougars bats kept hacking away as the team recorded five singles and three doubles as part of the eight-run second.
 - Taking a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth, redshirt junior Ethan Plyler hit a three-run triple before scoring on a throwing error on the play to make it a 14-1 ballgame.
 - Six different Cougars recorded multi-hit performances Tuesday, including graduate Will Baumhofer, who went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
 - Graduate Mike Eggert earned his second win of the campaign, tossing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
 
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 62-43 all-time against The Citadel and 37-13 at home.
 - The Cougars improve to 13-2 against the Bulldogs under head coach Chad Holbrook and have scored 10-plus runs in eight of those victories.
 - CofC's eight-run second are the second-most runs scored in a frame.
 - Senior Tyler Sorrentino extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI single in the second.
 - Senior Dariyan Pendergrass stole his 32nd base of the year, taking sole possession of sixth all-time in a single season.
 - Senior Dylan Johnson threw out his 18th would-be base stealer, tying him with Alex Garabedian (2007) for the third-most in a season in program history.
 - Charleston has scored 26 runs on 30 hits in its last two contests with 11 of the knocks going for extra bases.
 - Tuesday is the first time CofC's offense did not strikeout since March 24, 2018.
 - The Cougars improve to 7-2 on Tuesday's in 2025 and 10-1 when scoring 10-plus runs.
