
Tracey Lynch Named CAA Coach of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – After leading College of Charleston to one of the top turnarounds in the nation this season, Tracey Lynch has been named the CAA Coach of the Year. by her conference peers.
Freshman pitcher Mackenzie Mathis was named to the All-CAA second team and was joined by freshman catcher Leela Langston on the All-Rookie squad.
Lynch is the first Charleston coach to win the award in the CAA and third overall. After being picked to finish last in the CAA preseason poll, Lynch guided the Cougars to a 20-7 conference record and the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The school record for conference wins in a season included seven series victories and five sweeps.
The Cougars are the first team in CAA history to post a winning record in conference games after being picked last and only the fifth to qualify for the tournament. Their 14 CAA victories at Patriots Point were the most home conference wins by any team in the nation this season.
Charleston brings a 30-23 overall record into the postseason, a 20-win increase over the 2024 campaign. Through the end of the regular season, the Cougars are the third most improved team in the nation.
Mathis was one of the top pitchers in the CAA during conference play with a record of 8-2 and three shutouts. Her ERA of 1.66 against league opponents ranks second, and she is also fifth with a .202 opponent batting average and third with 71 strikeouts, including a season-high 12 against NC A&T.
Overall, Mathis has 10 wins and a 2.70 ERA to go along with 116 strikeouts. She was a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week and came within one out of the first Cougar no-hitter in 13 years in a 1-0 win over Drexel on March 28.
Langston took over the fulltime role behind the plate early in her first collegiate season and started 42 times including 26 of 27 in CAA play. She was second on the team with a .314 batting average and led the Cougars with a .391 mark in conference action as well as producing 13 of her 19 RBI.
She committed only two errors in 225 total chances for a .991 fielding percentage.
