HOUSTON, TEXAS – College of Charleston women's soccer secured its first victory of the season in a dominating 3-0 match against Houston Christian Thursday evening at Sorrels Field.
Outshooting the Huskies 21-3 throughout the match, the Cougars came out of the gates hot collecting four shots and three corners within the first nine minutes of action. Redshirt-senior
Faith Slimmer started strong for the Cougars with a goal in the 17th minute with senior
Bubbles Dever collecting the assist. Tonight's goal marked Slimmer's 15th tally as a Cougar. The senior registered three shots in 55 minutes of playing time.
In the first half Charleston out-shot the Huskies 10-2. The Cougars took three corners compared to Houston Christian's zero.
The Cougars did not slow down in the second half with sophomore
Maggie Heffernan finding the back of the net in the 47th minute for her first collegiate goal. Sophomore
Casey Malone picked up her first career assist on the marker.
With 11 minutes left to go, sophomore
Sienna Petro added the insurance tally, coming off the bench and netting her own first career goal, making it 3-0 Charleston.
The Huskies had three shots with zero on goal. Charleston goalkeepers
Ainsley Chunn and
Lucia Touwsma combined for the clean sheet and did not face a shot on net thanks to the strong Cougar backline.
The Cougars remain in Texas, travelling to Austin to face Texas Sunday August 31. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on SECN+.
