MT PLEASANT, S.C. – Redshirt junior Braeden Smith hit a walk-off two-run homer to beat South Alabama, 7-6, Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point.

Smith connected his first long ball of the campaign, helping call the game for the Cougars.

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST SOUTH ALABAMA:

Charleston grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third following a wild pitch and one-out single off the bat of graduate Dylan Johnson.
South Alabama scored four in the fifth before making it a 5-2 game in the seventh.
Johnson drove in his second run of the day in the home half of the frame to cut the Jaguars lead to two.
Down 6-4 in the eighth, redshirt freshman Will Burgess recorded his first career hit, singling home freshman Nick Diaz before later scoring on a fielder's choice.
Johnson collected his third hit of the ballgame, doubling to the right-center gap to leadoff the bottom of the ninth.
Smith then hit the 1-0 offering over the wall to seal the win for CofC.
Freshman Jace Stancil made the start for Charleston, allowing two runs across 4.1 innings.

OF NOTE:

Charleston improves to 6-3 all-time against South Alabama.
Smith gave the Cougars their eighth walk-off homer in school history.
CofC has hit a walk-off home run in back-to-back seasons. This is the second instance in program history and first since the 2014-15 campaign.
Johnson and graduate Reece Holbrook each had three knocks in the victory.
Freshman Kaden Myers earned his first career win.
