Cougars Lose Midweek Against Pirates

CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST EAST CAROLINA:
- Freshman Nick Diaz gave the Cougars an early 1-0 with an RBI single in the first before the Pirates responded with a three-spot in the second.
- ECU later extended its lead with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- Charleston wouldn't go away as sophomore Landon Penfield slugged a solo shot over the left-center wall in the seventh to cut into the deficit.
- CofC leveled the game with a five-run eighth, highlighted by a game-tying grand slam off the bat of freshman Jake Amman.
- The Pirates capitalized in the home half of the frame to retake the lead for good.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is now 6-12 against ECU.
- Diaz and Amman both collected their first career three-hit games.
- Amman slugged the 64th grand slam in program history.
UP NEXT:
Charleston continues neutral site play in Greenville, S.C., when it takes on James Madison and Illinois. First pitch against the Dukes on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Fluor Field.
