CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST UNCW:
- Freshman Jake Amman picked up his second of three hits on the afternoon in the third, singling to right to plate graduate Reece Holbrook to open the scoring for the Cougars.
- Sophomore Landon Penfield slashed a two-run double to right in the sixth before collecting another RBI double in the eighth.
- Graduate Will Tippett plated Penfield with a single for an insurance run, making it 5-0.
- That was more than enough offense for Bryant, who yielded just five base runners in the victory.
- Sweeney took over in the eighth, allowing just one hit and striking out five in two scoreless frames.
- Penfield went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the victory.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is 28-29 versus UNCW and 11-17 as the road team.
- The Cougars have taken two-of-three ballgames the last three series at UNCW dating back to 2022.
- Sunday marked CofC's third shutout win of the year
- Bryant tossed a career-best 7.0 innings and had a career-high seven strikeouts in the win.
- Bryant and Sweeney combined for 12 strikeouts Sunday.
- The two hits and one walk were the fewest combined hits and walks allowed in a shutout since tossed a one-hitter Feb. 25, 2024, versus Youngstown State.
- Sweeney has punched out at least five batters in three appearances this season. In those outings, the southpaw has 16 total strikeouts across 7.2 IP while yielding an unearned run on five hits and three walks.
- The Cougar pitching staff issued just four walks in 26.0 innings this weekend, posting a 3.12 ERA and holding the Seahawks to a .204 batting average.
