Biography

On Howard: Only four-year member of the Cougars provides leadership in the dugout and on the field with her play.

Career Notes: Appears 44 times in College of Charleston record book ... owns top single-game strikeout performance (15) and is tied for third in homeruns (2) and fourth in hits (4), RBI (6) and total bases (10, twice) ... single season marks include fifth and tenth in strikeouts per seven innings (5.55 in 2008/4.65 in 2006), fifth and eighth in wins (18 in 2008/15 in 2006) and seventh and eighth in strikeouts (146 in 2008/123 in 2006) ... for  her career, she is currently second in saves (3), third in total bases (254) and innings (461.1) and fourth in hits (173), strikeouts per seven innings (5.11) and wins (38).

2008: Played and started in 65 games ... batted .293 with 60 hits, 25 runs, 14 doubles, six homeruns, a career-high 37 RBIs and .468 slugging percentage ... as a pitcher, went 18-13 and led team with 3.16 ERA ... appeared in 36 games, 16 starts ... finished with 11 complete games, 184 innings and 146 strikeouts ... posted seven three-hit performances, including a 3-for-4, two run, four RBI outing that saw her lace a double and drill her fifth homerun of the season against Charleston Southern on April 15 ... finished combined 5-for-9 with five RBIs and four doubles in first two games against Appalachian State on March 21 ... combined to go 6-for-8 with three runs against Charleston Southern (3/26) and Georgia Southern (3/29) ... went 2-for-4 with run, two RBIs and a pair of doubles against Georgia Southern in Southern Conference Tournament ... posted complete game, four hit shutout of 2008 NCAA Tournament team Campbell on February 12 ... struck out 10 vs. Tennessee Tech on February 23 ... threw complete game shutouts against Charleston Southern (3/26) and UNC Greensboro (4/19) ... broke program record with 15 strikeouts against Hampton on April 8.

2007: Played in 59 games, starting 58 ... batted .330 with 61 hits, 29 runs, seven doubles, eight homeruns, 35 RBI and .519 slugging percentage ... on the rubber, appeared in 27 games, 12 as a starter, and finished with a 5-7 record, 4.47 ERA, and 68 strikeouts ... completely dominated South Carolina State on March 3 as she went a combined 6-for-10 with six runs, seven RBIs, a double, triple and a pair of homeruns ... threw a five-inning, complete game shutout in second game in which she belted two homeruns and finished with career-high six RBIs ... had similar performance against Appalachian State from March 31-April 1 as she finished 5-for-9 with six runs, seven RBIs and a pair of homeruns in both games ... she is the only player to have back-to-back multiple homer games ... had five RBIs in nightcap ... 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of doubles vs. UNC Greensboro on April 28 ... recorded her first double-digit strikeout performance with 10 in a five-inning, complete game one-hitter against South Carolina State on April 4 ... threw 7.1 innings vs. Chattanooga on May 6.

2006: Played in 54 games, starting 53 ... second on team with .317 batting average and added 52 hits, 17 runs, four doubles and 14 RBIs ... as a pitcher, posted team-best 3.06 ERA and went 15-16 with 16 complete games, 185.0 innings, 123 walks and held opponents to a .250 batting average ... went 4-for-4 against Temple on February 20 in her third collegiate game ... over a four-game stretch from February 26-March 1, delivered four straight 2-for-3 performances, going 8-for-12 with five RBIs, four runs and her only two homeruns of the season ... was highlighted by additional two runs and three RBIs against Charleston Southern on February 28 ... went 3-for-4 against Brigham Young (3/4) and Eastern Kentucky (3/10) ... on the rubber, threw five-inning, one-hit, complete game shutout of Texas Southern on March 5 ... notched career-high eight innings against North Carolina on March 29 and again in a three-hit, one run, no walk 2-1 victory over Appalachian State on April 8 ... recorded seven-inning, two-hit complete game shutout of vs. Furman on April 22 and five-hit blanking of UNC Greensboro on May 7.

El Camino High School: Outstanding four-year performer for Eagles softball program ...ECHS to league championship in 2005 ... earned All-League and All-Metro honors in 2005 ... posted highest batting average in city with .679 mark along with 40 RBIs, four homeruns and 230 strikeouts from the pitching rubber ... named Team Most Valuable Player following 2002 and 2003 campaigns.

Personal: Born in Carmichael, California on March 11, 1987, Shannon is the daughter of Gregory and Lisa Howard ... family includes a sister, Meghan, who pitched four years for Division I Butler University ... majoring in psychology.
