The College of Charleston softball team had a come-from-behind victory over Liberty at the Kennesaw State Invitational on Sunday in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Cougars (6-8) defeated Liberty, 5-4 ? their first win over the Flames since the series began in 1996.
The Flames (4-2) got on board early as Liberty scored two runs in the first inning, before Katie Pesature got the Cougars' first hit of the game ? a double to center ? in the bottom of the third. Izmena Cabrera's double to center would score Pesature.
Liberty would add a pair of runs in the fourth to give the Flames a 4-1 lead. Jennifer Golden's two ?run homer got the Cougars within one, 4-3, before Shannon Howard hit a double and eventually scored a passed ball and Amber Shifflett's RBI-single scored Katie Sansouci who walked.
Ashley Williams, Dawn Jeffs and Jessica Moore led Liberty at the plate on 2-for-4 hitting. Jeffs and Williams scored a run, and Jeffs had an RBI. Terra Lowe (0-2) gave up six hits and five runs with four strikeouts for the loss.
Golden led the Cougars offensively on 1-for-3 hitting, including her third home run this season. Katie Sansouci, through 3 1/3 innings of work, allowed one hit, a walk and two strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.
College of Charleston plays host Kennesaw State at 4 p.m. today.
