College of Charleston men's basketball coach Bobby Cremins announced Friday the signing of forward Antwaine Wiggins (pronounced Antwon), bringing to six the number of Cougar signees for the 2007-08 season.
Wiggins (6-7, 180, Greeneville, Tenn.) helped Greeneville High School and coach Bill Duncan to a 32-3 overall record and an 11-0 league mark last season. Wiggins was a finalist for Tennessee's class AAA Mr. Basketball award after averaging 26.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 4.0 assists this season. The left-hander scored 18 points, including the winning tip-in in the closing seconds, to help the East beat the West, 102-100, in the Tennessee coaches association all-star game. He averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds as a junior.
"I've been recruiting Antwaine since I got the job," said Cremins, who led Charleston to a 22-11 record in his first season. "He played with Tony White, Jr. on the Tennessee Travelers. I went to the Peach Jam last summer and I really like Antwaine from the moment I saw him.
"He's a natural small forward who is very versatile. He's a wonderful young man. My staff did a great job and our success last season had a lot to do with completing this class. When I first came here I knew the rebuilding process would begin after this season."
On Thursday, the College of Charleston announced the signing of guards Andrew Goudelock (6-1, 170, Stone Mountain, Ga./Stone Mountain HS), Donovan Monroe (6-1, 180, Waxhaw, N.C./Fork Union Military Academy), Roland Davis (6-0, 170, Deer Park, N.Y./St. Dominic HS) and forwards Dustin Scott (6-8, 220, Jamestown, S.C./Timberland HS/Tallahassee CC), Jeremy Simmons (6-8, 225, Stone Mountain, Ga./Tucker HS).
