
Western Carolina Wins Series Finale, 4-1

A two-run shot to left off the bat of Mollie Fowler, followed by a solo shot to center from Lauren Ross in the seventh gave Western Carolina a 3-1 edge before the Catamounts added one more run to seal the 4-1 Southern Conference softball series finale win over the College of the Charleston on Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars (29-18, 11-4), who won 2-of-3 in series and tied for first in league standings with Chattanooga, had their 15-overall game winning and 11-conference game streaks snapped.  The 
Darla Roberson, who pinch ran for Kolby Schooley after she led off in the third with a double to left, scored 
Savannah Filley, who pinch hit for Mendy McKenzie, singled through the left side to score Jessica Swank for the Catamounts' final run of the game.
McKenzie (10-15) scattered five hits, struck out five and issued three walks and yielded one run for the win.
Terri Mesko (15-8), who gave up three runs on four hits, took the loss. She issued four walks and fanned four.
Fowler went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two runners to lead the Catamounts at the plate. Swank was also 2-for-3, and Filley and Ross each had a hit.
Brittany Small, Kristie Shifflett, Shannon Howard and Schooley each had a hit for the Cougars.
