
Mesko, Cougars Take Two From UNCG, 10-3 and 7-5

Freshman Terri Mesko recorded 14 strikeouts to set a new College of Charleston single game record in the Cougars' 10-3 win over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference, before the College of Charleston won the nightcap, 7-5, at the UNCG Softball Stadium before 151 in Greensboro, N.C. The Cougars will play the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Mesko (16-9) scattered eight hits and issued two walks in seven innings of work for the win.
Kristie Shifflett, who hit a pair of doubles, was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the
Jennifer Golden's RBI-double to right center scored Shifflett in the first inning, and Cougars (31-20, 13-4 SoCon) would add runs each inning but the third and fourth.

The Spartans (25-32, 5-11 SoCon) would scratch out a pair of runs in the fifth on back-to-back RBI-singles from Brittany Ausley and Jennifer Bonilla.
With bases loaded in the sixth, Brittany Small drew an RBI-walk to extend the Cougars' lead to 8-2, before UNCG scored its final run of the game of a run scoring double from Heather Branche.
Cabrera's two-run shot, her seventh of the season, to left field gave the Cougars the final margin.
Amber Harrell (10-13) took the loss for UNCG as she gave up seven runs ? all earned ? on six hits. She issued seven walks and struck out four.
The Spartans led 1-0 through two innings, before the
UNCG would narrow the margin to 5-4 in the fifth when Kara Clouser's double to left center cleared the bases to score Bonilla, Leslie Furness and Lyndsay Mouse.
A two-run sixth inning would give the Cougars just enough to escape with the win off a pair of Spartan miscues. Shifflett, who reached on an error by Bonilla, subsequently scored on a fielding error by Laura Orlenderski. Howard's double to right center scored Golden who reached on a single and advanced to third on the fielding error for final score of the game.
Katie Sansouci (10-4) scattered six hits, struck out two and issued a walk in 4 1/3 innings of work for the win. Howard, who earned her first save of the season, struck out one and gave up two hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Hannah Angel (5-9) took the loss as she gave up seven runs ? five earned ? on 11 hits. She issued four walks and struck out two in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Howard and Cabrera each had three hits in the 11-hit attack. Howard had three RBI and Cabrera had one.
Clouser, who was 1-for-3 with three RBI, led the Spartan offense.
