Brythe Blankenship was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Lauren Mackey, who hit a three-run shot to left which gave Furman the lead for good in the top of the third, was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Blake Murray (8-16) allowed five runs ? all earned, walked six and struck out five for the win.
Izmena Cabrera paced the Cougars, who had 10 hits for the game, with 3-for-4 hitting with two runs scored, Amber Shifflett was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored. Teri Mesko was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kristie Shifflett had a hit with two RBI, and Jennifer Golden had a hit with an RBI.
Mesko (17-12) scattered seven hits and yielded six runs ? five earned ? in four innings of work for the loss. She struck out four and walked one. Katie Sansouci allowed six runs, walked four and struck out one in 2/3 innings. Shannon Howard, who was 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI, worked the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.
