
Former Cougar Philip McCandies Signs Professional Contract

Former College of Charleston center Philip McCandies signed a one-year contract with the Bremen Roosters of Germany's second division Pro A Bundesliga, it was announced on Wednesday.
McCandies was instrumental in Charleston's 22-11 record last season that included a 13-5 Southern Conference mark and a runner-up finish in the SoCon Tournament in Bobby Cremins' first season as head coach.
Starting all 33 games as a senior last year, McCandies averaged 7.0 points, a team-leading 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native had five career double-doubles.
McCandies' highlights included a 15-point, 15-rebound effort in a win over UNC Wilmington on Nov. 26th and seven blocked shots at Georgia Southern on Feb. 24th. He had a career-high 16 points in Charleston's 72-66 win at Georgia State on Nov. 11th. He drained a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat Wofford, 77-75, on Jan. 22nd. McCandies shot 54.3 percent from the field including 34.8 percent of his 3-point tries.
McCandies came to the Cougars as a transfer from Virginia Tech. He also received McDonalds All-American Honorable Mention while at Parkland High School.
McCandies is one of two players Bremen has signed for the 2007-08 season. McCandies arrived in Germany on August 19th and has been training with the Roosters in preparation for their first game against N?rdlingen, scheduled for September 30th.
