
CofC Drops Decision to Coastal Carolina, 57-53

Coastal Carolina's Amanda Stull scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half to lead the Chanticleers to the 57-53 win over the College of Charleston women's basketball team in action tonight in front of 352 fans at Kimbel Arena in Conway, S.C.
Charleston dropped to 4-3 while the Chanticleers improved to 5-2 on the year.
After the College of Charleston tied the game at 33-all with 13:40 remaining, Coastal Carolina outscored the Cougars 12-3 over the next five minutes to take a 45-36 lead with 9:02 left. Charleston answered with a 9-2 run that cut the deficit to 47-45 with 5:26 remaining.
The Chanticleers had only one basket over the final 6:39, but went eight-of-nine from the free throw line to secure the win.
Eight straight points by Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) gave Charleston an 8-3 lead with 14:30 remaining in the first half. The Chanticleers eventually tied the contest at 8-all with 10:44 left in the opening stanza.
Trailing 22-19 with 3:39 left, Charleston regained a 23-22 lead on buckets by Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) and NeShonda McLaurin (McColl, S.C.). The Chanticleers took a 24-23 lead at intermission on a Katie Ahaus jumper.
Coastal Carolina shot 47.5 pecent from the field after going 10-of-16 in the second half for 62.5 percent. Charleston shot 45.1 percent. The Cougars, who outrebounded 31-25, outscored the Chanticleers 22-14 inside the paint.
Leading the Cougars was Kotcella with 15 points. Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) and Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) followed with 10 apiece. Jones led the team in rebounds with seven.
Stull led the Chanticleers with 18 points, while Olivia Irick paced the team in rebounds with six.
