Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 22 points, while Tony White, Jr. (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 19 points in the College of Charleston's 90-66 Southern Conference win over Chattanooga before 4,389 at McKenzie Arena on Saturday.
The Cougars improved to 11-6 overall and 6-0 in league play with their fifth straight win. Chattanooga fell to 11-7 and 3-2. Charleston plays host to Furman at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The win marked Charleston's largest at McKenzie Arena. The Cougars are 6-0 in league play for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
It was Charleston's largest SoCon win since beating The Citadel, 80-48, on Feb. 26, 2005, and its largest league road win since knocking off The Citadel, 69-45, on Jan. 31, 2004.
"I wish we had shot like that the last time we were here. But Chattanooga is always tough," said Cougar coach Bobby Cremins. "John [Shulman] does a great job. Today, we just shot the ball extremely well. First it was Tony White, who gave us some big points. People realize if they get us in foul trouble, they can disrupt our starting five and a lot of people are try to do that. If we have to go to our bench, that usually means freshmen.
"We probably have the most inexperienced bench in the United States. And as soon as our freshmen came in to the game, John isolated them and forced us to play our big guys. But our freshmen did a good job today, they held the fort for us. Right before half, we had some bad turnovers, but those freshmen held the fort for us. In the second half, that enabled us to play [Jeremy] Simmons a lot more. We still have a lot of things to work on, but obviously I'm very pleased."
Charleston used a 21-6 run to break open a 10-point game and grab an 81-56 lead with 4:40 left. White capped the run with his fifth 3-pointer of the game.
Goudelock scored 14 points and Monroe added 10 points that helped the Cougars to a 47-36 lead at intermission.
Donavan Monroe (Waxhaw, N.C.) added 15 points and six rebounds. Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Mocs were paced by Ricky Taylor and Jeremy Saffore who scored 14 and 12 points each, respectively.
For the game, Charleston shot 50.0 percent from the floor connecting on 33-of-66 attempts. The Mocs shot just 39.0 percent from the floor hitting 23-of-59.
