MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team overcame a 4-0 deficit in the first inning to defeat Appalachian State, 12-4, in five innings.
"I think it's a sign of a good ball club when you can respond to a team after they score some runs on you," explained head coach Linda Kalafatis after the victory. "Our offense is clearly a strength for our team, we are getting great production from a lot of different people in the lineup. We need to sure up some things defensively and I believe the players are willing to put in the work this week to accomplish that."
Senior Hope Klicker earned her third win of the season, striking out three and not surrendering a walk in four innings.
The Cougars did not get out to a good start, giving up four runs on four hits and two major errors to put CofC down, 4-0, after the first inning.
The bats would come alive in the bottom of the third when the Cougars would string together five straight singles, plating three runs. CofC would regain the lead after Sara Garcia blasted a three-run homer over left field, giving The College a 6-4 lead.
CofC would extend the lead to, 8-4, in the fourth inning, after a pitch hit Chandler Frisbie with the bases loaded and Morganne Parker tagged up from third base on a sacrifice fly by Garcia.
The College scored four more runs to end the game, 12-4, despite only having one hit in the fifth inning. Sara Garcia would end the day with 4 RBI's along with Katie Padilla and Chandler Frisbie having two a piece.
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend when they have a double header Friday, Feb. 27 against Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, California.
