MT. PLEASANT, S.C. –The College of Charleston softball team was defeated by Jacksonville University, 3-1, and Loyola-Chicago, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in what was day two of the Holy City Showdown.
“It's always disappointing to drop two games but then to do it on our home field… It's just really hard to swallow,” explained head coach Linda Kalafatis. “We just didn't cash in with runners in scoring position today. Our pitching and defense was good, we just have to put it all together. We'll have to play with some urgency tomorrow”

Samantha Martin only gave up two earned runs over 11 innings pitched on the day, striking out 11 batters, and only giving up three walks. Despite the loss, Martin retired Loyola-Chicago in order four straight times after the third inning to end game.
