GAME PREVIEW
Off to its best start since the 2003-04 season, the College of Charleston men's basketball team (12-4, 3-0 CAA) has won four straight and hosts Hofstra (9-7, 1-2 CAA) on Family Fun Day presented by Great Clips on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena. The game will be televised live locally on MyTV Charleston. In a matchup between one of the league's top scoring offenses and its top defense, the Pride are averaging 78.5 points per game which is third best, while the CofC defense has limited opponents to an average of 56.6 points per game. In fact, opponents have scored under 60 points against the Cougars in six of their last seven contests. Redshirt freshman guard Joe Chealey and sophomore forward Jarrell Brantley are one of the top scoring tandems in the CAA – both on a six-game double-digit scoring streak and combining for 41 points in the team's 62-57 win over Towson on Jan. 5. Chealey currently ranks ninth among league scorers (15.0 ppg) and Brantley 11th (13.8 ppg). The Cougars are off to a perfect 3-0 start in CAA play for the first time since joining the league in 2013. Last year, they went 2-1 in their first three league games and in 2013-14.
A LOOK AT HOFSTRA
Each of Hofstra's three CAA games have been decided in single digits including back-to-back losses at home to William & Mary (95-93 OT) on Jan. 2 and James Madison (62-54) on Jan. 5. The Pride opened up league play with a 58-56 victory on the road at Delaware on Dec. 31. They have four players scoring in double figures including co-leading scorers Deron Powers, Justin Wright-Foreman and Eli Pemberton averaging 13.1 points per game. Hofstra is the second-best three-point shooting team in the CAA with a 38.7% accuracy from long range and second-best rebounding team (39.4 rpg) behind Towson. Expect another physical matchup inside.
BEST START SINCE 2003-04
The Cougars are off to a 12-4 start (losses to UCF, Wake Forest, defending national champion Villanova and LSU) under third-year head coach Earl Grant – the program's best start since the 2003-04 campaign where they went 14-2 in their first 16 games of the season under former head coach Tom Herrion. CofC previously went 11-5 in its first 16 games in 2010-11 and 2012-13.

COUGAR SOUND BITES
"We're on to the next one. We haven't played here in awhile. We've been gone for a while from our home gym, so I'm glad we have the first one (home game) behind us now. We have a good Hofstra team coming in on Saturday for the second round of our homestand. This is just game two in that stretch, but an important game two. It's going to be another physical challenge. We just have to prepare the best we can in a one-day prep to get ready for the game." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on continuing the homestand at TD Arena
"Jarrell can play in all different style of games, certainly from a physical standpoint. He is a physical kid and he has some toughness. He enjoys that type of game. That's his type of game. He wants to mix it up and he wants to be physical. He did a great job with 19 points and 13 rebounds (against Towson). He really couldn't do much more than that for us." – Coach Grant on the play of Jarrell Brantley
"Joe (Chealey) did a great job. He is a great player. The players are the ones who win games. If you have good players, you have a better chance to win. If you don't have good players, it's a little bit harder. He made great shots for us. He made big plays, but it was a total team effort. We held them to 57 points, and they average 72 – that's minus 15. It was a total team effort." – Coach Grant on the win over Towson
"Jarrell just does it all to be honest with you. He's one of, if not the best, players in the conference. We know we're going to get consistency from him, night-in and night-out. Regardless if he is scoring from the outside, we know what we're going to get from him and that's 100% effort. He is always going to be locked in. He is definitely a shot in the arm that we get every night." – Redshirt Junior Guard Joe Chealey on teammate Jarrell Brantley
