The game will be broadcast on ESPN3. Both teams last met in the opening-round of the 1994 Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico. UAB will be one of two Conference USA opponents the Cougars will face in non-conference play this season as they host Charlotte on Dec. 1 at TD Arena. Senior forward Jarrell Brantley is riding a five-game double-digit scoring streak having registered back-to-back 20-point outings including a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds versus the Tigers on Thanksgiving Day. He has also gone 8-for-8 from the free throw line in his last two games against Oklahoma State and LSU. The winner/loser will move on to the 5th/7th place game against either Canisius or Memphis on Sunday.
UAB AT-A-GLANCE
UAB had its three-game win streak halted by No. 14 Florida State (L, 63-81) in the opening round. They have two players averaging double figures in sophomore guard Zack Bryant (13.5 ppg) and redshirt senior forward Lewis Sullivan (10.0 ppg). COUGAR SOUND BITES
"You don't have a lot of time to ponder on what just happened. You have another game and have to bounce back and get ready. For this team, this tournament is good for us to try to figure out where we are. It's November and we have the chance to play in a very competitive tournament. You only get two tournaments in the year. One now and one in March where you try to punch your ticket for the Big Dance. Dealing with these types of teams will only continue to help us grow as a team." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on moving forward from the LSU loss
"They (LSU) did a good job of crashing the glass. There's always confrontation. When you have three guys with that type of athleticism and length, it's certainly going to be a war on the glass. Give LSU credit. I thought we competed hard. They only had five offensive boards. They had 67 points. I thought we gave them 20 (points) off of turnovers and decision-making we can improve upon. There were a lot of positives from this game. But, there was a lot of bad execution early on." – Coach Grant on the physical presence of LSU
"Last night was a big learning experience for us. We fell short against a really good LSU team. We had a lot of good things happen in that game, but we still need to clean up some things. From this point on, this tournament is all about learning and seeing who we are as a team and how we can build on it. We have two more games left. We will try to go out and win them and continue to learn." – Senior Forward Jarrell Brantley on the LSU game
"We just have to take it one day at a time and take it one step at a time. We will put the LSU game behind us. They (UAB) will be another tough team as all of these teams are in this tournament. They work hard and it will be another challenge for us tonight." – Brantley on rebounding from the LSU loss to prepare for the next test against UAB
