Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Taylor Belfiore drew a bases loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give College of Charleston a 2-1 win over Longwood in its final game of the Cougar Classic at Patriots Point.

The Cougars split four games in their first home tournament of the season and improved to 5-3 while Longwood lost for the first time in three games.

The game-winning base on balls offset a leadoff home run by Longwood's Karleigh Donovan in the top of the seventh that ended Izzy Berouty's shutout bid. Dexlie Inman got the bottom of the inning started with a double to left and moved to third when Yari Felix dropped a two-base hit just behind the bag at third.

With runners at second and third and one out, Lancer pitcher Sydney Backstrom issued an intentional walk to Jordin Jones to bring up Belfiore, Charleston's leading RBI producer. The sophomore battled to a 3-2 count before taking the pitch that gave the Cougars the victory and Belfiore her 10th RBI of the year.

Berouty tossed a three-hitter and struck out a career-high six including the side in the fifth. She did not allow a hit until one out that inning, and the only other Longwood hit was a single in the sixth before the Donovan homer in the seventh.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first when Felix walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. They had opportunities to build their cushion but left runners in scoring position in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Charleston returns to action next weekend with four games at the Georgia Classic in Athens. The Cougars take on the host Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday and also have contests against Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State.
