Cougars Down ETSU in Opening Game of Georgia Classic

Athens, Ga. – Kelly Sinclair, Dexlie Inman and Jordin Jones each drove in two runs to back Izzy Berouty's complete game in the circle as the College of Charleston defeated East Tennessee State, 8-2, in its first game of the Georgia Classic at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga.
The Cougars (6-4) then dropped a 12-0 decision in five innings to 14th-ranked Georgia. Charleston wraps up tournament play with Saturday contests against Gardner-Webb at 10:30 a.m. and another matchup with the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.
Sinclair led an 11-hit attack with three singles including RBI base knocks in the second and fifth. Inman and Gracyn Thrasher both had two hits, with Thrasher recording the first multiple-hit game of her freshman season.
Berouty allowed six hits to improve to 4-1 while tossing her fourth complete game of the season. Only one of the two runs she allowed was earned.
After spotting the Bucs a run in the first, the Cougars responded with a leadoff homer in the second by Taylor Belfiore, her second of the season and ninth of her career. Lexee Emanuel doubled and scored on Sinclair's first RBI, and Inman capped a three-run frame with a double, her third of the year.
ETSU got a run back in the third, but again Charleston quickly answered when Emanuel walked, Sinclair singled and the duo moved into scoring position on a ground out. Thrasher drove in the first run with a single, and Inman followed with a squeeze bunt to make it 5-2.
Sinclair added an RBI single in the fifth, and Jones plated two with a sixth inning single to provide the Cougars with three insurance tallies.
In the loss to Georgia, three Bulldog pitchers limited the Cougars to only one base runner on a two-out error in the third. The hosts slammed three home runs and blew the game open with a nine-run, nine-hit bottom of the third.
