Athens, Ga. – Izzy Berouty allowed only two hits over six shutout innings, and Sara Garcia and Kelly Sinclair combined to drive in five runs to lead the College of Charleston to a 7-2 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday at the Georgia Classic in Athens.

The Cougars (7-5) then wrapped up tournament play with a 6-0 loss to 14th-ranked Georgia to go 2-2 on the weekend, with both defeats coming at the hands of the Bulldogs.

Berouty (5-1) gave up singles in the first and sixth, with the second one erased on a double play. The sophomore right-hander struck out three and did not walk a batter in lowering her ERA to 1.86 on the season. She allowed only one Gardner-Webb batter to reach over her final three innings in the circle.

Charleston struck early against Runnin' Bulldog pitcher Ashley Wark, scoring three times in the first including RBI singles by Sinclair and Garcia. The Cougars added a run in the third and broke it open with three in the fourth, with Sinclair knocking in the first run of the inning and Garcia capping it with her second and third RBI of the contest.

Gardner-Webb's Katie Prebble ended the shutout bid in the seventh with a two-run homer off Summer Jenkins.

Sinclair had five hits, drove in four runs and scored three times in the tournament. Taylor DuPree had a leadoff single against Georgia, enabling the senior third baseman to move into a tie for fifth with Shannon Howard (2006-09) with 216 career base hits.

DuPree also scored twice against Gardner-Webb to tie Brooke Flowers (2001-04) for fourth with 135 runs. DuPree leads the Cougars with a .429 average this season and extended her consecutive games started streak to 158 dating back to her freshman campaign.

The Cougars return to action with five games next weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. Charleston opens with Friday contests against Wright State and Western Michigan, faces Wisconsin and Penn on Saturday and takes on Central Michigan on Sunday.
