Elon Rallies Past Cougars in CAA Opener

Elon, N.C. – Elon scored five times in the sixth inning to give the Phoenix a 5-2 win over the College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out and will be played as part of a twinbill on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
The Cougars (18-12, 0-1 CAA) took a 2-0 lead in the first on singles by Yari Felix and Kelly Sinclair and a wild pitch that brought home both runners. Izzy Berouty made that slim margin stand up until Elon (16-12, 1-0) struck back in its final at bat.
Ally Repko tied the game with a two-run homer and, following a walk, Summer Jenkins replaced Berouty in the circle. The Phoenix proceded to put together three singles and took advantage of a couple of errors to plate three more runs.
Dexlie Inman and Taylor DuPree singled with one out in the seventh before Kiandra Mitchum closed the door on the Cougars. DuPree had been 0-for-3 before extending her hitting streak to 13 in her final plate appearance. Jordin Jones joined Inman with two base hits including a double.
