CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (7-9) plays its penultimate match of the regular season on the road Sunday, when they will head to Greenville, N.C. to take on East Carolina (18-4) for a noon encounter.
The Cougars dominated The Citadel in a 7-0 victory for their senior day home-finale, but followed that up with a defeat at the hands of James Madison on the road last week. Benedikt Henning has been red hot for the Cougars in the top flight of both singles and doubles play. He's been a combined 13-3 between the two in the month of March alone, and has looked unstoppable at times.
The two teams have been frequent rivals of late, matching up for the past three straight years. CofC has been victorious in the last two by close margins, with the Cougars winning 4-3 in 2017 by virtue of wins in the four top singles flights.
The Pirates were on a ten-month winning streak that encompassed over a month of play before it was finally snapped in their most recent contest, a close 4-3 loss at the hands of William & Mary. Nonetheless, at 18 wins on the season, they're just one victory shy of matching their highest win total in the past decade. ECU has gotten excellent production from its lower flight singles players, as Kasey Countee, Ronny Georgi, Wisse Jonker and Javier Renones all have at least 14 wins this season.
