GAME PREVIEW
The College of Charleston men's basketball team (2-1) travels to Marshall (2-1) for a first-time meeting between the two schools on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. (ET) in Huntington, W.Va. The Thundering Herd present the Cougars with their first road test of the season after opening the season with three-straight home games at TD Arena. Both CofC and Marshall are looking to rebound from tough losses against Power 5 competition in Oklahoma State (Big 12) and Notre Dame (ACC) last week. Senior forward Jaylen McManus has come up big for the Cougars with back-to-back games in double figures including a career-high 18 points with two long-range threes against OSU on Nov. 13. Charleston is ranked No. 19 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll and led in scoring by preseason Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Grant Riller, who is averaging a team-best 21.7 points per game. This is only the program's second-ever road trip to the Mountain State next to playing at then No. 21-ranked West Virginia during Head Coach Earl Grant's first season at The College (L, 57-86) on Nov. 29, 2014 in Morgantown, W.Va.
PACK YOUR BAGS
It's the start of coast-to-coast road travel for the Cougars beginning with the state of West Virginia on Monday and Tuesday for the Marshall game on Nov. 19 followed by the Sunshine State of Florida on Friday and Saturday for the UCF game on Nov. 22 in Orlando. CofC will later spend the Thanksgiving holiday break in the Golden State of California for the ESPN Wooden Legacy tournament on Nov. 28, 29 and Dec. 1 in Anaheim with a first-round game slated against Wake Forest on Turkey Day.
MARSHALL AT-A-GLANCE
Marshall is just a couple of months removed from beating Wisconsin-Green Bay (W, 90-70) in the championship game to win the 2019 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Thundering Herd return three starters from that 23-14 overall squad including Taevion Kinsey, who had a double-double (16 points and 11 rebounds) in the team's 74-64 loss at Notre Dame on Nov. 15. The Cougars will play in a hostile environment on Tuesday night as Marshall is averaging 5,588 fans over the last two contests at the Cam Henderson Center. They were picked to finish 11th in the Conference USA Preseason Poll.

COUGARS AGAINST CONFERENCE USA
Last year, the Cougars faced two Conference USA opponents in Charlotte (W, 72-64) on Dec. 1, 2018 at TD Arena and UAB (W, 74-51) in the consolation semifinals of the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando, Fla. CofC is 36-14 all-time (.720) against C-USA including Charlotte (12-11), UAB (2-0), MTSU (1-1), WKU (0-1), Old Dominion (2-0), FAU (9-0) and FIU (10-1).
ROAD TRAVEL BEGINS …
Last season, CofC went 3-1 in true road games in non-conference play with wins at Western Carolina, VCU and Siena. The Cougars will play their next five-straight games away from the friendly confines of TD Arena, while the venue plays host to Florida, Miami (Fla.), UConn, Saint Joseph's, Buffalo, Xavier, Towson and Missouri State for the ESPN Charleston Classic on Nov. 21, 22 and 24.
COUGAR SIDEBARS
• Marshall Head Coach Dan D'Antoni served as assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers from 2012-14 under his brother, Mike D'Antoni. The D'Antoni brothers coached former College of Charleston star and 2011 NBA Draft Pick Andrew Goudelock, who was nicknamed the "Mini-Mamba" by Kobe Bryant, while playing for the team during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons (played in the 2013 NBA Playoffs).
• Both College of Charleston and Marshall won its respective conference tournaments and earned an automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament – the first appearance for Charleston since 1999 and the first for Marshall since 1987. The Cougars were seeded No. 13 in the Midwest Region, while the Thundering Herd were seeded No. 13 in the East Region – both playing in opposite sides of the bracket, but traveling to the same first-and second-round site. CofC was edged by No. 4-seeded Auburn (L, 58-62), while Marshall upset No. 4-seeded Wichita State (W, 81-75) at Viejas Arena on the campus of San Diego State in San Diego, Calif. It was the Herd's first NCAA Tournament win in program history. They would later fall to in-state rival West Virginia in the Round of 32.
OKLAHOMA STATE RECAP
Oklahoma State 73, College of Charleston 54
• For the third-straight game, College of Charleston went with the starting five of Zep Jasper, Grant Riller, Brevin Galloway, Jaylen McManus and Osinachi Smart (2-1).
• Oklahoma State improved to 3-1 in the all-time series with CofC. The Cowboys have now won back-to-back games in the series. Both teams will conclude the 2-for-1 series next season in Stillwater.
• Grant Riller turned in 16 points with a season-high eight assists against Oklahoma State. He has now tabulated 1,861 career points to date and extended his double-digit scoring streak to 31-consecutive games.
• For the first time of his career, Jaylen McManus led the team in scoring with career-high 18 points in 34 minutes of action against Oklahoma State. It marked his seventh career game in double figures.
• Osinachi Smart brought down a team-high and season-high tying seven rebounds including three on the offensive glass versus the Cowboys.
• The Cougars had a season-high 5,005 fans in attendance for the nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network, which was the 18th all-time largest crowd in program history at TD Arena.
COUGAR SOUND BITES
"They have great fan support and great tradition. We are excited to play in that type of atmosphere. It's a good opportunity for us and our first road game. We are going to find out a lot about our team on this road trip." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on traveling to Marshall
"They (Marshall) have a unique style. Coach (D'Antoni) does a lot of interesting things offensively. They are talented and have some good players including their guard (Jarrod West). They have had good success over the last few years. But like us, it's a new team. They lost some players similar to us. We are trying to figure out guys moving into different positions. They are going through that same scenario with their roster as well. We know it will be a challenge on Tuesday night." – Grant on Marshall's success over the last couple of years with an NCAA Tournament berth in 2018 and CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament title in 2019
"We've been trying to get better opponents to come to TD Arena. Certainly, what we've had to do is travel to their place first. Like we did with Rhode Island a couple of years ago and VCU last year. Now, we are doing it with Marshall. We needed a road game and they were looking for a game at home, it just worked out for both of our schedules." – Grant on how the home-and-home series developed with Marshall
"Playing a team like Oklahoma State is very good at this time of the year, because you learn a lot. You deal with a high level of athleticism and they had a really experienced team. Even though it was a loss, we can grow from that loss." – Grant on moving forward with some positives from the Oklahoma State game last week
