Cougars Fall to Radford in Opening Game of Holy City Showdown

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – The College of Charleston was limited to five hits in a 5-1 loss to Radford in the first game of the Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point.
Alondra Vicary had two hits and Brittany Vicary added a double and scored the Cougar run in the sixth on an RBI single by Chandler Sparkman that pulled Charleston within 3-1. But Radford's Kayla Huffman retired the final four batters to secure the Highlander victory.
Huffman threw a complete game, struck out five and did not walk a batter. Izzy Berouty started for the Cougars and threw a pair of shutout innings before Radford came up with three two-out runs over the third and fourth innings.
Drayton Siegling relieved Berouty to start the fifth and set down the first eight batters she faced with three coming on strikeouts before the Highlanders bunched together three hits to score a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Five games will be played on the second day of the tournament on Friday, with Charleston taking on Appalachian State at 7 p.m.
