
Cougars Host Hofstra to Launch CAA Schedule

Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston opens Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend with a three-game series against defending conference tournament champion Hofstra at Patriots Point.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for youth (18 and under), and weekend passes are available for $12 for adults and $5 for youth. CofC faculty, staff and students are admitted free with a valid school ID.
A clear bag policy is in effect at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (14-13) are coming off a 3-2 trip to Fullerton, Calif., defeating Boston University, Harvard and Iowa State at the Easton Invitational. Hofstra (12-11) has reeled off six straight wins, including a 4-0 mark at the St. John's Invitational last weekend.
Charleston is led at the plate by Madi Brown, who is batting .349, ranks third in the CAA with 30 hits and is tied with teammate Lexee Emanuel for second in the league with nine doubles. Emanuel is also the team leader with 16 RBI, and Yari Felix has a .358 batting average while going 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
The pitching duo of Drayton Siegling and Chandler Sparkman have established themselves among the CAA leaders. Siegling (5-0) is sixth in the conference with an ERA of 2.27, and Sparkman is 10th at 2.74 while also ranking first with three saves. Sparkman has a team-best 46 strikeouts in 46 innings.
Hofstra's Kristin Hallam leads the league in hits (33) and runs (28) and ranks second in stolen bases (16) and third in hitting (.452) and on-base percentage (.535). Megan Giordano is at the .400 mark and is third in the CAA with 25 RBI and fourth with seven homers. Kasey Collins is batting .394 and is third with 11 steals.
The Pride is led in the circle by Madison Burns, who has six wins, eight complete games and a 3.36 ERA. Her 77.0 innings pitched are the second most in the CAA.
Hofstra holds a 12-6 lead in the all-time series, and the teams have split six games at Patriots Point. The Cougars swept the set at home in 2017, and the Pride returned the favor a year ago in Hempstead, N.Y. Hofstra has won four in a row including a victory in the 2017 CAA Tournament.
