Cougars Face Tough Test with Road Trip to James Madison

Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston takes on the pre-eminent power in the CAA this weekend with a series at nationally-ranked James Madison. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and finish the three-game set on Sunday at noon.

JMU holds a 16-6 lead in the all-time series including a 7-1 mark in Harrisonburg. The Cougars have earned a win in the regular season series in each of the past two seasons.
The Dukes, ranked No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, are 33-7 and have a three-game lead in the CAA with an 11-1 record while the Cougars are tied with Hofstra for fourth at 5-7 (21-22) overall. The top five teams at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the CAA Tournament.
Charleston is coming off its first conference series win of the season, taking two of three at Towson last weekend. The Cougars then made it a two-game season sweep of Charleston Southern with a 5-4 victory over the Buccaneers on Tuesday at Patriots Point.
Madi Brown has taken back the team lead with a .333 batting average, narrowly ahead of Gracyn Thrasher (.330) and Yari Felix (.327). Brown is also tied with Dexlie Inman for the top spot in doubles with 12 and has driven in 19 runs, tied for second with Brittany Vicary and two shy of Lexee Emanuel.
Izzy Berouty earned the win against CSU and moved into a tie for the team lead with Drayton Siegling with seven. Siegling gained her third save and has a team-low 2.57 ERA.
Five of JMU's seven losses have come to teams that have been ranked in the Top 20 this season. The Dukes have a host of players who appear among the CAA leaders, led by two-way standout Megan Good. Good is batting .351 with 13 homers and 47 RBI and is 13-5 with a 1.74 ERA and 128 strikeouts in the circle.
Sara Jubas (.441, 13 2B, 38 RBI), Kate Gordon (.398, 12 HR, 39 RBI) and Odicci Alexander (14-1, 2.02 ERA, 99 strikeouts) are among other JMU veterans who are enjoying outstanding seasons.
