GAME PREVIEW
The College of Charleston men's basketball team (1-3) continues its holiday home slate with South Carolina State (0-5) as both the Cougars and Bulldogs meet on the hardwood again on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena. The contest will be part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team, who will face NC Wesleyan in the game prior at 4 p.m. (ET). With a mix of veterans and newcomers to the squad, CofC has made strides in each of its last four games as the team gels together on the both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Graduate senior guard Brevin Galloway knocked down a career-high 27 points in the team's last outing against Marshall, while Zep Jasper turned in his third-straight game in double figures with 16. Both team captains have taken on new roles after the graduation of 2020 NBA Draft pick Grant Riller, while also having a supporting cast of returners and transfers in the lineup. The Cougars will have the next week off to focus on final exams, before closing out non-conference play with Western Carolina on Dec. 18 and Georgia State on Dec. 21.
SOUTH CAROLINA STATE AT-A-GLANCE
Like CofC, the Bulldogs have also played tough competition out of the gate. They have played Appalachian State (L, 61-81), Bowling Green (L, 78-101), Clemson (L, 38-75), UNC Asheville (L, 56-77) and Charlotte (L, 40-78). South Carolina State is still searching for its first win of the season and will close out its non-conference slate with Liberty, Presbyterian, Furman and South Carolina. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 79 in the nation in steals per game (8.0).

COUGAR SOUND BITES
"You would hope that you will get better from all of these experiences. At some point, you hit it right at your peak. That's why it's so important for our players to stay true to our values and stick together even when we are dealing with adversity. Losing games. It's not always easy. You have to deal with adversity and continue to roll. I think it (playing tough competition) can help us continue to grow. It's going to be important for us to stick together and come to practice with the right attitude." – CofC Head Coach Earl Grant on the team playing stout competition with the likes of UNC, Furman and Marshall to open the season
"We aren't doing anything a whole lot different than we've ever done in the past defensively. We have a new team. We have lot of new moving parts. We are not at the level of where some of our teams were in the past. We still have some developing to do. Give the teams (Furman and Marshall) credit. They made the shots. It's not always easy to knock them in. I'm not concerned when teams make threes. I'm concerned when teams make uncontested threes. When I watch the film, I'm sure there will be three-or-four times, when we did not do a great job. We weren't mature enough to do a great job in our defensive coverage – to get out and contest. For the most part, we contested some of those threes and they made them." – Coach Grant on the team's perimeter defense
"The more games we play, the more we will be able to get used to each other. We will get more in-sync. We definitely need more stretches like that in order for us to win a ballgame. We can't have stretches where the other team is scoring 15 and we are only scoring three. We can't even have them score 15, at that. We have to be able to defend, rebound and hopefully get some buckets on the offensive end." – Graduate Senior Guard Brevin Galloway on some of the stretches the team has had over the last two games
"We have to be able to go out there and compete. Fight for 40 minutes against these good, talented teams that we are going to play and face. Obviously, we have to keep working on the defensive end and keep making stops. Sharpening things on that end. Overall, our morale is good. We have good attitudes and good spirits. We know that the best is yet to come." – Galloway on the team's mentality in the locker room after back-to-back tough losses
"I'm glad we have a one-day turnaround, so it (Marshall loss) doesn't have to sit with us that long. Instead of a week or a couple of days. Going into Friday's game, we have to put it in the past, and obviously, learn from it. Keep chopping wood and keep fighting." – Galloway on regrouping to get ready for South Carolina State
