Mount St. Mary's Box
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Freshman Lauren Sandor tossed a five-hit complete game and struck out eight in a 3-2 win over Mount St. Mary's in College of Charleston's final game at the Garnet/Gold Classic hosted by Winthrop.
Earlier in the day, the Cougars dropped a 9-1 decision to Saint Francis. CofC went 2-2 over the weekend.
Sandor allowed only one earned run in her first career start and struck out the side in the second as part of a stretch in which she retired nine in a row. She also fanned two in the fourth after allowing a run that tied it at one and finished the game in the seventh on a called third strike with the potential tying run at third.
The Cougars scored a run in the first on an RBI double by Payton Wade and broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth when they took advantage of a pair of Mountaineer errors to score two runs.
Wade went 5-for-10 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored and three RBI in the tournament.
In the loss to Saint Francis, Mia Dittoe tied the game in the second with a single for her first career RBI, but the Red Flash responded with five in their half of the inning to blow the game open.
The Cougars are back in action next Saturday and Sunday with two games each against Winthrop and Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga.
