Cougars Open CAA Play at UNCW

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston begins its CAA slate this weekend with three games at UNCW, including a doubleheader Saturday at noon and single contest Sunday at noon. All three games can be seen on Flosports and live stats will also be available.
The Cougars hold a 29-21 lead in the all-time series and are 11-12 in Wilmington. The last time the teams met, CofC swept a three-game set at Patriots Point to conclude the 2019 regular season and earn a berth in the CAA Tournament.
Kylie Burke ranks eighth in the CAA in ERA at 2.58, sixth with an opponent batting average of .222 and second with 35 strikeouts. In her last outing on March 12, Burke worked 5 1/3 innings of three-hit shutout relief with six strikeouts in a 2-0 win over UNCG.
Payton Wade leads the Cougars with three home runs and is tied with Riley Miller for the team lead with four doubles and seven RBI. Miller has a team-best .304 batting average.
The Seahawks are also playing their first conference series of the season and are 3-13 overall after losing two of three to Furman last weekend.
Tayler Vitola is fourth in the CAA in batting at .490 (minimum 20 at bats) and is tied for the league lead with nine stolen bases. Janel Gamache is batting .362 with three homers and 15 RBI, the latter figure tying her with Jada Santiago for second in the CAA.
