CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will hit the road for the first of three consecutive weekends away from Patriots Point on Friday when the Cougars travel to Elon, N.C. to take on the Elon Phoenix in a three-game series in Colonial Athletic Association play. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
Series Preview
The Cougars have won seven of their last 10 after splitting a pair of midweek matchups with The Citadel and Wofford last week. Elon has won three of its last five including a series victory over UNCW last weekend at home.
Scouting Elon
The Phoenix enter the weekend with a 14-17 overall record and an even 6-6 mark in CAA play. Elon is batting .252 as a team while sitting second in the conference with 32 home runs on the season.
Alex Iadisernia leads the team with nine home runs and 24 RBI while sporting a squad-best .380 batting average. Friday's starter, Brian Edgington, is 1-3 this season with a 3.75 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched over 11 appearances.
Series History
Charleston leads the all-time series with Elon, 33-24. The Phoenix have won three of the last five in the series after taking two of three at Patriots Point in 2019.
Last Time Out
The Cougars defeated NCAA Division II foe, Emmanuel (Ga.) by a score of 6-3 last Friday at Patriots Point. Harrison Hawkins drove in two with a fifth-inning single to pace the offense while Ty Good fanned eight in six innings of work to earn his fourth win of the season.
Hammering Homers
The Cougars' power bats have exploded to life over the last 13 games. Led by senior outfielder Harrison Hawkins, Charleston has launched 18 homers in that span including back-to-back three bomb efforts against Clemson and James Madison. Hawkins established two new program records with one swing of the bat last Tuesday at The Citadel, setting the Cougars' team and individual single-season record for grand slams with the teams' seventh and his third this spring.
Scoring in the Clutch
Charleston has done its fair share of scoring with two outs with nearly 50 percent (94 of 196) of their total runs coming with two down. Hawkins leads the team with a .333 (16-for-48) batting average with runners in scoring position. The Cougars have scored 94 total runs with two outs including 65 over the last 18 games.
