CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The fourth-seeded College of Charleston baseball team will face No. 6 William & Mary in an elimination contest on Friday morning in the 2021 CAA Baseball Championship after falling to top-seeded Northeastern on Thursday afternoon. First pitch between the Cougars and Tribe is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.
Game Preview
The fourth-seeded Cougars and sixth-seeded Tribe meet for the 31st time in an elimination game after Charleston fell to Northeastern and William & Mary advanced with a 7-3 win against Towson on Thursday.
Scouting William & Mary
William & Mary carries a 14-28 overall record into today's game and finished fourth in the CAA South Division with a 10-14 mark. The Tribe are batting .232 as a team with 26 home runs and 49 stolen bases this season.
CAA Defensive Player of the Year Matt McDermott also leads the Tribe in home runs (6) and RBI (25) while Ben Williamson paces the squad with a .310 batting average.
Series History
Charleston leads the all-time series with William & Mary, 18-12, after sweeping the series from the Tribe in Williamsburg, Va. earlier this month. The Cougars have won five of the six meetings this season.

The Cougars fell to top-seeded Northeastern, 10-3, in the second round on Thursday after the Huskies jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the opening frame. Jared Kirven launched his fourth homer of the season to put the Cougars on the board in the second.

Sophomore designated hitter Tanner Steffy is off to a strong start through the first two games of the CAA Championship with five hits in seven at-bats to pace the Cougars. The Chapin, S.C. native has driven in three of Charleston's nine runs including a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over Towson.
Venerated Cougars
Five Cougars collected postseason honors from the CAA on Tuesday led by senior outfielder Harrison Hawkins who earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team. Jared Kirven, Joseph Mershon, Tanner Steffy and Trey Pooser were each named to the All-CAA Second Team while Mershon and Pooser both collected CAA All-Rookie honors as well.
Slammin' Sluggers
The Cougars have thrived with the bases loaded this season launching a single-season program-record eight grand slams thus far. Senior outfielder Harrison Hawkins has hit three slams this season which is also an individual single-season record; Ari Sechopoulos and Tanner McCallister each have two grand slams this season.
