Men's Basketball Tests #1 Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team gave #1 North Carolina a scare Friday night in the Dean Smith Center after holding a seven-point halftime advantage.
Dalton Bolon started the scoring early with a cutting layup less than fifteen seconds into the contest. A key Babacar Faye charge twelve minutes in led to back-to-back threes by Bolon and Ben Burnham to give the Cougars a three-point edge.
Pat Kelsey's squad went five-for-five from the field to take a 21-16 edge, highlighted by an Ante Brzovic three and Raekwon Horton slam dunk. The Cougars took their largest lead of the game thus far at 29-21 on a Reyne Smith shot from the behind the arc.
Charleston matched every Tar Heel bucket in the first half, including another Horton dunk that silenced the Dean Smith Center. CofC made three field goals to end the first half and outrebounded the number one team in the country 21-17 to take a 50-43 halftime lead. Bolon led all scorers with 14 followed by Brzovic with 12.
The Tar Heels went on a 7-0 run to start the second frame. Layups from Bolon and Scott kept pace until UNC took their first lead since early in the first half to go up 58-56. CofC continued to dominate the glass with Horton and Pat Robinson III grabbing offensive boards on back-to-back possessions to push the Cougars ahead by one.
UNC held the Cougars scoreless for 2:30 before Faye laid in the soft touch to bring CofC within six at 78-72. CofC showed their trademark toughness, sinking 5-for-7 from the field while continuing to control the glass.
The Tar Heels held a 38-9 advantage in attempted free throws, ultimately leading to a comeback victory for the nation's top ranked team.
