CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston returns home for the first time in three weeks when the Cougars host East Carolina in a three-game series at Patriots Point.
SCHEDULE CHANGE - The Pirates are in town for a Saturday single game at 11 a.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday at noon. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youths with the box office opening at noon on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The Cougars and Pirates are meeting for the first time since the 2007 season when East Carolina won 9-0 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Charleston last won the previous year with a 5-4 home victory.
The Cougars are ranked third in the CAA with a 2.97 team ERA, led by Carli McCants (third, 1.88) and Payton Lemire (ninth, 2.86). McCants is also ninth in strikeouts (31) and fifth in opponent batting average (.222).
At the plate, Jenna Carter stands 13th in the conference with a .340 average. Jenna Helberg is in the top 15 with 20 hits, seven doubles, 10 RBI, 33 total bases and a .516 slugging percentage. Helberg and Carsten Puckett both have two homers, with Puckett connecting Thursday night at South Carolina.
East Carolina has won five of its last six to move to 13-11 on the season. Six Pirates are batting over .300 led by Faith Jarvis (.387), while Logyn Estes paces the team with 19 RBI and Chandley Garner has a team-high four homers.
Estes and Madisyn Davis are both 4-1 in the circle with Davis leading the Pirates with a 2.10 ERA and 35 strikeouts.
