ELON, N.C. – Elon broke open a close game with six runs in its final three at bats to take a 7-1 victory over College of Charleston and a 2-1 series win.
Jenna Carter had two of the Cougars' six hits, but Jenna Helberg went 0-for-2 with two walks to see her eight-game hitting streak come to an end. Malaka Belser drove in the Charleston run with a bases loaded ground out in the seventh.
Charleston had a scoring chance in the second when Mia Dittoe and Noel Dominguez singled and Kayla Gutierrez walked. Down 3-0 in the fifth, Carter singled and Helberg walked, but Belser's fly ball to deep left was hauled in on the warning track for the final out.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Winthrop beginning at 4 p.m. CAA play resumes on Friday and Saturday when James Madison visits Patriots Point.
