CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston wraps up a stretch of nine straight road games on Wednesday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Winthrop's Terry Field.
The Cougars hold a slim 14-13 lead in the series and are 5-6 in Rock Hill. The Eagles took both games last year in Statesboro, Ga.
Jenna Helberg saw her eight-game hitting streak end in the final game at Elon but is batting .344 with team-leading totals of 10 doubles, five homers and 20 RBI. Jenna Carter has been a fixture on the base paths with a .373 average and 19 walks for a .510 on-base percentage.
Carli McCants has three wins in the circle and a team-high 62 strikeouts. Drayton Siegling earned her second victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Elon, and Payton Lemire got the final two outs for her second save.
Winthrop is 13-26 overall but 7-8 in Big South play. The Eagles are led at the plate by Paige Rivas (.381, 15 steals) and Macy McCall (.314, 19 steals). As a team, Winthrop has swiped 72 bases. Reese Basinger is the top pitcher with six wins, a 2.56 ERA and 90 strikeouts.
The Cougars return home on Friday to open a three-game CAA series against James Madison.
