CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays its first home games in three weeks when James Madison visits Patriots Point for the final time as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Cougars and Dukes meet in a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at noon. Admission will be free on Friday, but tickets are required for Saturday at $8 for adults and $5 for youths 18 and under.
Charleston will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day on Friday with the first 20 fans receiving a free "42" hat. Saturday will be the first Bark at the Park, with fans invited to bring their dogs to the game. A waiver, which can be found above, is required.
The Cougars are looking to gain ground in their hunt for a berth in the CAA Tournament, entering the weekend in a four-team race for what will likely be the final two spots. James Madison is ineligible for the tournament after announcing its departure for the Sun Belt.
Charleston is coming off a doubleheader split at Winthrop on Wednesday. The trio of Payton Lemire, McKenna Kelly and Drayton Siegling combined to allow only 11 hits and two earned runs in 13 innings against the Eagles. Shealyn Starks and Mia Dittoe connected for home runs, one in each game.
The Dukes lost a great deal of talent from their team that reached the semifinals of the College World Series last season but still put out a formidable lineup. Hannah Shifflett leads the way with a .388 average, 14 homers and 34 RBI, and JMU has 55 home runs as a team.
