CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston will look to gain ground in the race for a CAA postseason spot when the Cougars visit UNCW for a three-game series this weekend.
The teams will play a doubleheader at Boseman Field on Saturday at noon and a single game on Sunday at the same time.
The Cougars are 3-8 in the CAA and in a three-way battle for what is likely the final berth in the five-team tournament. Charleston trails Drexel (4-8) and leads Towson (3-9) with three series remaining for each team.
Four teams – Delaware (9-3), Hofstra (8-3), UNCW (7-5) and Elon (6-6) – appear to be in solid shape. James Madison is also 7-5 but ineligible to appear in the tournament. UNCW is 25-10 overall and has won three of its four conference series this season against Delaware, James Madison and Towson.
Following this weekend, the Cougars host Towson and play at Delaware to finish the regular season. The CAA Tournament takes place May 12-14 in Elon, N.C.
Charleston holds a 29-27 lead in the series with the Seahawks and are 11-15 in Wilmington. UNCW won all six games last year after the Cougars had won five in a row including two victories in the 2018 CAA Tournament.
