CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston and Georgia Southern complete their home-and-home Wednesday night with Charleston seeking a season sweep and win No. 30 of the campaign while the Eagles look to split.
Charleston jumped out to a 7-0 lead in their first matchup thanks to a two-run first-inning single from Jared Kirven then two-run homers by Cole Mathis and Trotter Harlan in a five-run second inning that chased the Georgia Southern starter early.
The Eagles came roaring back though scoring five of the final six runs in the ballgame, but four costly errors proved to be too much to overcome in the end with Charleston walking away 8-5 winners.
Charleston enters the midweek fresh off a series win at North Carolina A&T as the offense posted 33 runs over three games and the largest comeback recorded in the program's Division I history.
Georgia Southern is in the midst of a lengthy road swing that saw a series loss at Troy over the weekend and matchup with bitter rival Georgia State coming after their visit to Charleston. Head coach Rodney Henson also collected his 900th career win in a 9-7 Sunday win at Troy.
