CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's basketball team defeated Monmouth 94-83 Saturday evening in front of a sold-out crowd of 4,790 in TD Arena. The Cougars improve to 4-0 in CAA play behind a nine-game winning streak.
Â
CJ Fulton hit a triple to start the game to set the tone for the night as Charleston never relinquished the lead.
Â
The teams traded baskets in a back-and-forth battle until
Ben Burnham went coast-to-coast to push a 14-9 Cougar edge and ignite a 13-4 run.
Â
Fulton hit his second three to extend the advantage to 12 and force a Monmouth timeout. The Hawks started to claw back into the game with a 7-0 run while forcing a two-minute Charleston scoring drought. CofC fought back to take a 14-point lead into the locker room.
Â
Charleston held Monmouth to a three-minute scoring drought to start the second half.
Kobe Rodgers then scored back-to-back layups to lead a 7-0 run, putting the Cougars up 64-43.
Â
The Hawks made an 8-0 run of their own in the final minutes of play until three straight triples, two from
Reyne Smith and one from
Frankie Policelli, silenced the Monmouth comeback.
Â
In one of the best moments of the season, junior
Jack Miller played the final minute of the game against his brother, Corey Miller, a Monmouth freshman. Both programs allowed the brothers to play 1-on-1 – Jack says Corey won that one.
