Cougars Travel to Columbia for Meeting with Gamecocks

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston is on the road Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game against No. 22 South Carolina at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
The Cougars are Gamecocks are meeting for the 17th time with Charleston's lone win coming in 2009. South Carolina is 13-2 and seeking its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in the past 11 full seasons.
Payton Lemire has been one of the top pitchers in the CAA during the early portion of the 2024 season. The fifth-year senior has three wins and ranks seventh in the conference in ERA (2.29), fifth in innings (36.2) and fourth in opponent batting average (.218).
Alana Vawter, a second team NFCA All-America at Stanford last year, joined the Gamecocks as a graduate transfer in the fall and is 4-1 with a 1.83 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season.
Following Wednesday's game, the Cougars host the Low Country Classic from Friday through Sunday at Patriots Point. Buffalo, Evansville and Wofford join Charleston in the four-team field.
