STATESBORO, Ga. – College of Charleston baseball traveled over to Georgia on Tuesday for a midweek contest with the Georgia Southern Eagles. The Cougars used homers from Luke Wood and Cole Singsank to take an early lead and then RBI doubles by Cole Mathis and Trotter Harlan extended the Cougs lead to 7-3. After the hosts made it a one run game in the 8th, Davis Aiken came on for a four-out save to preserve the Cougars win.

The bottom of the 1st began with a leadoff double by the Eagles, Daniel Brooks settled in to retire the next six batters but the hosts were able to take the lead on a sac-fly. In the top of the second, Charleston jumped out in front on a Luke Wood two-run homer to left. An inning later, Cole Singsank extended the Cougars lead with a solo homer over the center field wall.

Hayden Thomas came in to pitch the third. The Freshman worked well to keep the Eagles off the board, stranding a pair of runners in the 3rd and another in 5th, pitching three innings of shutout relief. Chase Jarnagin took the mound in the 6th for his first appearance as a Cougar. A leadoff single and hit batter put two on with no outs for Jarnagin. Georgia Southern's Kent Schmidt ripped a liner up the middle but Luke Wood snatched it out of the air and fired to first for a big double play. Jarnagin settled in and struck out the next batter to end the inning.

Charleston extended the lead in the top of the 7th through a Kevin Madden RBI single. Alex Lyon came in from the pen to pitch the bottom half. The Eagles were able to get a pair of runs via a balk and ground out to make it a 5-3 game. Charleston answered right back with RBI doubles by Cole Mathis and Trotter Harlan to make it a 7-3 game.

The Eagles cut the lead to one in the 8th with a pinch-hit three run homer off Emmett Bice. Davis Aiken came on to finish the inning to keep the Cougars in front. Some insurance was provided in the 9th on a sac-fly by Dylan Johnson to make it 8-6. Aiken came back out for the 9th and nailed down his fourth save of the season for an 8-6 win.
