
Baseball Splits Pair with A&T to Open CAA Play

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston Baseball took on North Carolina A&T in a double header on Saturday to open up CAA play. The series was scheduled to begin last night before weather moved game one to 11:00 a.m. this morning.
North Carolina A&T 5, College of Charleston 0
A&T started strong with two runs in the top of the first. That turned out to be all that Aggie starter Coley Kilpatrick needed. Kilpatrick threw a complete game shutout, surrendering four hits and six walks with four strikeouts.
Jake Brink started for the Cougars and pitched well enough to win. 8.0 innings with six hits, two earned runs and no walks but Brink was forced to suffer his first lost of the season.
Trotter Harlan, Avery Neaves, Dylan Johnson and Dariyan Pendergrass each had hits.
College of Charleston 7, North Carolina A&T 2
The Cougars struggled to get going early again in game two, finding themselves down 2-0 in the fifth. They finally broke out on the day with a Will Baumhofer three-run homer to go up 3-2.
In the bottom of the 6th, Avery Neaves clubbed a solo homer to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the seventh, Neaves came up with the bases loaded and smacked one into the gap. All three runners scored to put the Cougars up 7-2.
Baumhofer went 2-for-4 with a three run homer and two runs scored. Neaves finished 2-for-2 with a homer, four RBI and a run scored. Brent Gibbs got the start in game two, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Tyler Sorrentino walked and scored a run.
Aidan Hunter picked up with win with five innings of work, giving up a pair of runs. Daniel Brooks threw a scoreless inning out of the pen. Hayden Thomas then threw two scoreless before Davis Aiken pitched a perfect ninth.
