CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head men's basketball coach Chris Mack has announced the additions of Matt McCall, Chris Harriman, Jeff McInnis and Seth Tatum to his inaugural staff for the 2024-25 season.
McCall, who will serve as assistant coach, most recently served as the head coach at UMass from 2017-2022 and at Chattanooga from 2015-17. During his first season at Chattanooga, McCall led the Mocs to a school record with 29 wins, captured the SoCon Regular Season and Tournament Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The 29 wins were the most in the nation by a first-year head coach.
"Matt McCall is an incredible asset to our program as a former Division I head coach for seven seasons at Chattanooga and UMass. His background in player development with Coach Billy Donovan at the University of Florida cannot be replicated," said Mack. "Matt is a leader, a teacher and an excellent communicator. I have known Matt for years and am excited to have his energy and passion for the game here at Charleston and excited to welcome Matt and his wife Allison to Charleston."
McCall spent 11 seasons with Billy Donovan at Florida. After five seasons as a manager and graduate assistant, he was named Director of Basketball Operations (2006-08) before returning to Gainesville as assistant coach prior to the 2011-12 season. He also spent three seasons on the sideline at Florida Atlantic as an assistant coach. In total, McCall was part of four SEC titles, four SEC Tournament titles, two NCAA Elite Eights, a Final Four and two NCAA titles. The 2013-14 Gators won 30-straight games, with an 18-0 SEC ledger, before a loss to eventual National Champion UConn in the Final Four.
Chris Harriman joins the staff as an assistant coach after spending the 2023-24 season at St. Louis. Prior to St. Louis, Harriman spent the previous four seasons at Cal. He also served as an associate head coach at New Mexico for four seasons (2015-19) and was at Nebraska as an assistant coach for three years (2013-16). Harriman started his career as an assistant at St. Louis (2008-12).
The Sydney, Australia, native is widely regarded for his international recruiting ties as well as being one of the top NCAA Division I assistants in the country.
"Chris Harriman is one of the most energetic, hardest working assistant coaches I've ever been around. He is a joy to be around on a daily basis. His background with Rick Majerus at St. Louis University has taught him more about the game and the level of preparation it takes to win championships," said Mack. "Our players are going to get a tremendous coach in all settings of the game. Chris is relentless on the recruiting trail and has a vast number of contacts around the world he will utilize to help us land talented international prospects every year. We are thrilled to welcome Chris and his wife Ciara to Charleston."
Former NBA draft pick McInnis also joins the staff as an assistant coach. McInnis spent time with the Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trailblazers, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Jersey Nets, and Charlotte Bobcats throughout his 11-year playing career.
"Jeff McInnis is a winner. His love of the game and development of his players over the years in the city of Charlotte is well known. He was certainly an incredible player, playing for the legendary Dean Smith at the University of North Carolina and parlaying that success to a long NBA career," said Mack
McInnis is the founder of the Team Charlotte AAU organization. He played for the University of North Carolina from 1993-96, becoming a two-time All-ACC selection and reaching one Final Four.
"Many of our players have professional basketball aspirations and Jeff is an incredible resource for them. He has a bright mind for the game and will be counted on in many ways with his X's and O's knowledge. Jeff's coaching on the grassroots level has always been intense, passionate, and about the development of his players. We are ecstatic to add Jeff to our first staff at Charleston."
Lastly, Seth Tatum joins Mack's staff as the Director of Basketball Operations. A graduate of the University of Louisville, Tatum spent four seasons with Mack as a student manager before becoming a graduate assistant with the Cardinals.
While at Louisville, he worked with editing opponents' game video, team practice video recording, packing and organizing equipment, aiding in scouting materials and has tracked key team statistics during games.
"Seth Tatum is a workhorse and an incredibly loyal person. Seth started as an undergrad manager with me at the University of Louisville and is now our staff's right hand man for all things administratively. He can handle multiple assignments at a time and his meticulous approach always gets the job done right. Seth will handle day-to-day operations as well as video for both scouting opponents and self-scouting. We are fortunate to have Seth here in Charleston and are excited he's a part of our first staff."
