FIRST PITCH:
- CofC beat Dartmouth 2-1 on Friday and 7-3 on Saturday before Sunday's game was canceled due to inclement weather.
- Senior Dylan Johnson drove in both runs Friday, with an RBI double in the fifth and a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.
- Junior Jake Brink went a season-best 7.2 innings, allowing the lone run on six hits and one walk.
- Charleston launched three home runs in Saturday's victory, as freshman Landon Penfield, graduate Avery Neaves and Johnson all went deep.
- Senior Dariyan Pendergrass swiped three bags to tie his career high. It was the third time he's achieved the mark this season after establishing it last year and second time in the last three games.
- Senior Aidan Hunter picked up his fourth victory of the season in five innings of work on Saturday. Hunter has allowed just one walk in 26.1 frames across five starts.
- Nationally, the righty leads the country with 0.42 walks allowed per nine innings, is third with a 19.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 11th with four wins.
FAMILIAR FACES RETURN TO COLUMBIA:
- Head coach Chad Holbrook returns to Columbia for the first time since beating the Gamecocks 8-0 in his first season with Charleston in 2018. Holbrook was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at South Carolina from 2009-12 before taking over as head coach from 2013-17. Holbrook helped the Gamecocks win back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011; just the fifth school to ever achieve the mark and the last to go back-to-back.
- Assistant coach Sawyer Bridges also returns to Columbia where he spent three seasons on the Gamecock pitching staff. During his career, Bridges posted a 4-2 record, striking out 61 batters across 63 innings out of the bullpen.
- On the roster, Hunter and graduate Ricky Williams were both at South Carolina. Hunter threw five wins and 39 strikeouts across 48.1 innings in 2022 while appearing in 20 games with three starts. Williams was on the roster for two seasons (2023 and 2024) but did not appear in any games due to an injury.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Charleston and South Carolina meet for the 43rd time in program history Tuesday. The Gamecocks hold a 35-7 advantage in the all-time series, but the Cougars have won three of the last five meetings, including the last two meetings. Charleston earned a 6-5 win at South Carolina on March 29, 2016, before the Cougars blanked the Gamecocks, 8-0, on May 9, 2018. The two teams also met this fall in an exhibition contest at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
UP NEXT:
- Charleston returns to the Holy City for a 6 p.m. midweek contest against Winthrop on Wednesday, March 19 at Patriots Point. The Cougars will then begin Coastal Athletic Association play when they host Elon beginning on Friday, March 21. All home contests are aired on FloCollege.
Tickets to the March 18 contest in Columbia and home single game tickets are available for purchase by visitingcofcsports./tickets or by calling the Ticket Office at (843) 953-2632.
