CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston takes on Winthrop in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Patriots Point. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and admission is free.
The Cougars are looking to continue their hot streak which has seen them win seven of their last eight including a series victory over UNCW last weekend. Charleston is up to 5-1 in the CAA and within three games of .500 at 12-15 overall.
Pitching was the name of the game as the Cougars took two of three from the Seahawks. Ryley Kutter got it started, allowing only four hits and one unearned run in a 2-1 win. Freshman Mackenzie Mathis capped it off, tossing a five-hitter for her first career shutout in a 1-0 victory. Mathis struck out five and leads the Cougars with 47 on the year.
The Eagles are 18-10 and riding a four-game winning streak including a sweep of Longwood to begin their Big South schedule. The series is even at 16 wins each although the Eagles have taken 10 of the last 13 including a 6-0 victory in Rock Hill a year ago.
