
Cougars Sweep Dragons Behind Third Straight Shutout

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Lily Thorpe scattered four hits and posted the third consecutive shutout by the College of Charleston pitching staff in an 8-0 win over Drexel on Sunday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars earned their second CAA series sweep of the season and improved to 8-1 in conference games at home. With wins in 12 of its last 17 games, Charleston is now 17-19 overall.

The Cougars complete their six-game homestand on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when Coastal Carolina visits Patriots Point.

Game Summary
- Thorpe tossed her first career shutout in her second complete game, improving to 3-0 on the season with a 2.40 ERA.
- Along with Mackenzie Mathis and Ryley Kutter, Thorpe helped the Cougars post shutouts in all three games of a conference series for the first time since doing so against Furman (SoCon) in 2012.
- In a total of 20 innings against the Dragons, Cougar pitching allowed only eight hits while the defense played errorless ball.
- Kennedy Rhue led the offense with three hits on Sunday, and she has hit safely in six of her last seven games, going 12-for-21 (.571) over that stretch.
- Jay Wrightsman, Sierra Paradis and Karlee Hughes each had two hits with Wrightsman adding a double, two runs scored, an RBI and stolen base and Paradis drove in a pair of runs.
- The Cougars blew the game open early, scoring three in the first and four in the second.
- Paradis had RBI singles in both innings, and Rhue and Wrightsman also drove in runs with base hits.
- The game ended in the sixth when Austy Miller grounded into a fielder's choice to bring home Julia Sitterding to invoke the run rule.
