CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston wraps up a six-game homestand on Tuesday with a matchup against in-state rival Coastal Carolina. Game time at Patriots Point is 5 p.m. and tickets are $10.
The Cougars have won four of five on their current home stretch including a sweep of Drexel over the weekend that moved them into a four-way tie for first in the CAA at 9-3. Charleston has won 12 of its last 17 overall and is within two games of the .500 mark at 17-19.
Pitching was the name of the game against the Dragons as the Cougar staff did not allow a run and only eight hits in 20 innings. Mackenzie Mathis, Ryley Kutter and Lily Thorpe all posted shutouts to lower Charleston's team ERA in CAA contests to 1.90.
Coastal has a record of 28-8 and 5-4 in the Sun Belt. The Chanticleers have wins over Kentucky and South Carolina, which were both nationally ranked at the time, as well as two victories over Georgia Tech and one against Notre Dame.
Tuesday's game marks the 78th time the teams have met with Coastal holding a 52-25 series lead. The Cougars and Chanticleers have played every season since the inception of the Charleston program in 1993 except for the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign and 2022.
